Prowler Magus & Congregation

Blah blah blah

Now this just seems like a pointless battle. It's basically like just fighting some slightly more powerful mage enemies. This silly bunch is located about halfway through Brighstone Cove Tseldora, on your way to Duke's Dear Freja. Since this might be a very short blog post (there's really not a whole lot to this battle), I'll take a moment to talk about the levels in this game. I really appreciate the fact that the developers have made some really varied level designs. Take Brightstone Cove for example. The beginning area, before this boss, is a soldier's encampment area. It's filled with tents and large wooden towers, and it looks really cool. Even though they have some areas that are similar to older ones (The Gutter, for instance, is one part Valley Of Defilement and one part Blighttown), there are a lot of new, interesting areas that are completely unique to this game.

Magus and white-robed follower

Okay, back on track guys. Once you walk through the fog gate (I just realized last night that the prompt on the screen actually refers to it as "mist" instead of "fog", but whatevs), you find yourself inside of a small church-looking room. It's got two rows of pews, and it's nicely lit by sconces on the wall. The room is full of enemies, which, at first, might make you a little apprehensive. Don't worry, these guys are weak pushovers. Inside the room there are a few normal followers, or the "congregation". There's two slightly tougher mage-like guys dressed in white, also part of the "congregation". These enemies (seven or eight in total) make up the congregation health bar. Otherwise, there's Magus, who's some kind of dark priest. He's dressed in dark robes, (I believe) a mask, and a cool-looking staff.

Most of his tattered-robe congregation

I'm not gonna lie, I don't really remember exactly what kind of attacks all these guys have. I took them out fairly quickly and effortlessly, so I didn't pay a whole lot of attention. Magus has dark magic, and I THINK the two guys in white have lightning magic. But everything is either easy to dodge, or doesn't hurt terribly. And there's legitimately no strategy. Just block or dodge, and attack. I took out the normal guys first, then the two white-robed mages, then Magus. And that's all she wrote. I should have added this sooner, but I forgot until I just watched a bit of a YouTube video of this battle, but the normal congregation followers will crawl after you when they are attacked and knocked down. It's odd, because very few enemies in the whole series do this, and it's a bit annoying. Certainly won't break the battle though.
I haven't looked at the lore for this guy, but unless it's something insanely awesome, then this is definitely the dumbest battle in the game, and maybe one of the crappiest in the whole series. Eh, can't all be perfect. But at least the next few battles are great (even if they are on the easy side), and they have AWESOME design. If nothing else, the one great thing about this battle is receiving a Titanite slab after winning, instead of a boss soul! Whoopee! My longsword is +10 now!
